A Story Rooted in People and Possibility

My name is Shavonne Hedgepeth. I am originally from California, but Prince George’s is my home and has been for ten years. I studied history at the University of Maryland, Baltimore County, not just to learn dates and names, but to understand how systems have shaped, and too often delayed, people from achieving their dreams. That knowledge is what drives me today: I know we can do better, and I believe Prince George’s County deserves leadership that makes systems work for us, not against us.

From Service to Solutions

I’ve spent my life in service, as a volunteer, organizer, and community leader. Whether helping young people find opportunity, working on strategic solutions, or serving on local boards, my focus has always been the same: lifting up the voices of everyday people and breaking down the barriers that stand in their way.

Why I’m Running

Our families deserve safe neighborhoods, strong schools, reliable transit, and affordable housing, not systems that block opportunity. I am running for Congress in Maryland’s 4th District to change the way government works. With bold, innovative leadership, we can build a future where every child has the chance to thrive, where transparency is the rule, and where the people, not the powerful, set the agenda.

This campaign is about us. Together, we can make sure that the systems holding us back become the tools that move us forward.
